Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation involves transferring your hair from your donor zones to fill an area with thin or no hair. 

The hair on the backsides and sides of the heads will remain balanced with a slight decrease. These regions are the donor zones from which the donor's hair is taken. The hair taken from these places is placed in the tiny slits that the doctor opens with the surgical instruments in the other desired regions of the head.

In hair transplantation, art is as important as medical technology. Hair density is the number of hair follicles per centimeter.

The hair grows in different directions in different areas of the head: forward and upwards in the front side of the head, downwards or backward in the middle of the head, backward and downward in the backside of the head.

The thicker the hair, the greater the volume, so fewer hair transplants can be taken on each part. The thin hair volume is small and gives a very natural look, which is less concealed than thick hair.

The closer the hair color is to the skin color, the better the appearance of the covered area. The hair of African origin is dark and very curly, and the dark skin has very little contrast with different shades of skin. This ensures that the best transplant outcomes are achieved in terms of appearance. Men with light-colored hair and light-colored skin also have less contrast between hair and skin tones. This gives excellent results. Asian men with dark-colored straight hair and beige-colored skins are more contrasted and require the most artistic skills in hair transplantation. Nevertheless, excellent results can be obtained with a skilled doctor.

When deciding on the procedure, the doctor should also take into account the patient's future hair loss chart and its rate of change.

The design of the hairline and the selection of the area to which the hair is transferred are very important points. 

With the usage of very small follicular units (natural clusters of one to four hair), doctors can apply hair transplants at an early stage of hair loss, as the hairline begins to recur more recently.

Transmitted hair is added to the desired area of the head. 

If the sessions take a long time, you can reach one or two courses with the desired result. In these sessions, thousands of hair are transplanted into follicular units consisting of one to four hair. If hair loss progresses, new sessions can be made in the future.

How is hair transplantation being made?

A professional doctor is making the treatment. First of all, the doctor cleans up the scalp and injects medicine to numb the back of your head. The doctor will choose one of two methods for the transplant (according to the patient's hair condition): follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE).

For using the FUSS method, the doctor removes a 15- to 25 cm strip of skin from the back of the head. The surgeon puts it aside and sews the scalp closed. This area of the head is promptly hidden by the hair around it.

After that, the doctor's team splits the strip of removed scalp into 500 to 2000 tiny grafts, each with a single hair or just a few hairs. The number and type of graft you get depend on your hair type, quality, color, and the size of the area where you're getting the transplant.

For the FUE procedure, the doctor's team will shave the back of your scalp. Then, the doctor will remove hair follicles one by one from there. The area heals with small dots, which your existing hair will cover.

After that, both procedures are the same. After the doctor prepares the grafts, the surgeon cleans and numbs the area where the hair will be inserted, creates holes or slits with a scalpel or needle, and accurately places each graft in one of the holes. 

Depending on the size of the transplant the patient is getting, the process will last about 4 to 8 hours. You might need another procedure later on if you continue to lose hair or decide you want thicker hair.

Expectations and Recovery

After the surgery, your scalp may be very tender. You may need to take pain medications for several days. Your surgeon will let you wear bandages over your scalp for at least a day or two. He may also prescribe an antibiotic or an anti-inflammatory drug for you to take for several days. Most people are able to return to work 2 to 5 days after the operation.

Within 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out, but you should start to notice new growth within a few months. Most people will see 60% of new hair growth after 6 to 9 months.
